10th JJWEEK TIKTOK ENTRIES EXHIBIT YOUTH’S CREATIVITY AND RESPONSIBILITY

The Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council (JJWC) lauds the commitment of the youth participants in the recently concluded 10th Juvenile Justice and Welfare Consciousness Week (JJWeek) TikTok Challenge with the theme #AngAmbagKo: Kabataan, Share Mo Ambag Mo sa Pagsugpo ng COVID-19! to be responsible individuals to ensure the safety of their families and communities.

“JJWC recognizes the fact that the children and youth were some of the sectors that were greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic thus, we have lined-up activities such as the TikTok Challenge for them to have an avenue to participate and voice out their issues and concerns,” said JJWC Executive Director, Atty. Tricia Clare A. Oco.

The TikTok Challenge aims to showcase the valuable recommendations from the Filipino youth sector on child protection, specifically in line with the proper handling of children and youth relative to violations of local ordinances such as curfew during the community quarantine and new normal, through the creation of creative short-form mobile videos.

The video entry of Christian Geroy on following health protocols such as wearing of face mask and face shield, acknowledging the efforts of the front liners, and getting vaccinated won the first place and took home a cash prize of P10,000.

The second place with a cash prize of P7,000 was bagged by Brenda Cabardo. In her entry, she narrated the effects of the pandemic on the well-being of the youth and how staying at home and raising awareness online on how to fight the virus can be her own little way to help achieve a safe community.

Meanwhile, the entry of Quaranflix, composed of Marife Laggui, Jennifer Pano, and Danica Patriarca placed third and received a cash prize of P5,000. Their entry portrayed the common health protocols overlooked by many and the struggles faced by the youth during this pandemic.

A similar shortform video challenge contest was also opened exclusive for the residents of children and youth care facilities nationwide.  For this category, participants from Marillac Hills Dance Crew (1st place), BPA Taguig (2nd place), and Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office VIII – Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (3rd place) emerged as the top three winners.

Further, the entries from PYAP composed of Devine Marie Santos, Jeryl Tagle, Kenneth Magdaraog, Ace Espinosa, and Sheina Flores which received 342 reactions and Quaranflix which received 375 reactions respectively were given the Audience Choice Award and received P2,000 each as cash prize. The Virtual Awarding Ceremony of the TikTok Challenge Winners was held during the Culminating Ceremony of the 10th JJWeek on November 26, 2021.
