The Philippine Group of Law Librarians, Inc. (PGLL) turned over a collection of donated books to the Quezon City Molave Youth Home, through the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council (JJWC), during its 46th Anniversary celebration on August 27 at the House of Representatives in Quezon City.

The initiative aims to support the library and literacy needs of children in conflict with the law (CICL) by providing access to reading and learning materials during their rehabilitation. Promoting literacy creates opportunities for children in Bahay Pag-asa (BPA) to learn, discover their interests, and develop positive aspirations for their future.

In her message of support, JJWC Executive Director Atty. Tricia Clare A. Oco expressed the Council’s appreciation for PGLL’s support, noting that rehabilitation goes beyond intervention programs and should also provide children with opportunities for learning and personal growth.

“A library inside a Bahay Pag-Asa is therefore much more than a room filled with books,” Atty. Oco said, emphasizing that these resources can complement education, psychosocial interventions, life skills development, restorative justice, skills training, and other developmental activities provided to CICL.

In his message, PGLL President Bryan Boy C. Cortez highlighted the importance of connecting people with reliable information and collaborating with partners to make knowledge more accessible.

“The future of law librarianship will not be defined by the technologies we adopt or the collections we build alone. It will be defined by how effectively we connect people with trusted information, how we preserve our legal memory, and how we work together,” Cortez said.

The books were donated by OMF Literature Inc., Sto. Niño Catholic School, Inc. (via the Philippine Association of School Librarians, Inc.), Rex Education, the Securities and Exchange Commission, Vibal Group, Inc., the House of Representatives, Wiseman’s Book Trading, Inc., the Philippine Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science, and LegisPerit Publications Inc.

This donation follows the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between PGLL and the JJWC last May 2026 to establish and sustain library and information programs across Bahay Pag-Asa (BPA) nationwide, with the Quezon City Molave Youth Home serving as the pilot BPA for the initiative.
