The Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council (JJWC) kicks-off the observance of the 6th Juvenile Justice and Welfare Consciousness Week (JJWeek) with an On-the-Spot Poster Making Contest and Craze for Hope flash mob on November 19, 2017 at the SM City Fairview. The weeklong observance carries the theme “Mapagkalingang Hustisya, Ugaliin at Pagtibayin!”.

This year’s theme focuses on the principle of restorative justice in addressing the plight of the children in conflict with the law (CICL) in the Philippines.

“The principle of Restorative Justice is the core of the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act. It emphasizes on the roles each of us play in creating hope for the children and building safer communities for us to live in,” said Atty. Tricia Clare A. Oco, JJWC Executive Director.

The JJWC partnered with SM Cares and SM City Fairview for the kick-off event on November 19. An advocacy video featuring a success story of a former CICL who is now a licensed teacher and a music video on the struggles and triumphs of a CICL towards becoming a productive citizen are also being launched. There will also be special performances from artists like Quest, Madeline and Mayonnaise.

“We continue to advocate for the full implementation of the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act. The featured success story is just one of the many testimonies we have documented. They are proof that with proper intervention and rehabilitation programs and the support of the community, we are able to affect change in the lives of these children,” Atty. Oco related.

An art exhibit tagged as Pigments of Hope will also be opened on November 20 to 24 at the Basement Level of SM City Fairview Annex 2. The exhibit will feature some selected paintings from the poster making contest.
